Sunday mornings everyone gathers at the Ojai Certified Farmers’ Market for the choicest fresh fruits and vegetables, local jams and honey, olive and walnut oil, free range eggs, prepared delectables and much more. Not just a mere farmers’ market, this is a weekly event. The music and people-watching are part of the fun. Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – rain or shine – behind the Arcade at 300 E. Matilija Street. Sorry, no dogs allowed.
Friend's Ranches - a small, family operated grower for five generations - specializes in a wide variety of avocados, honey and citrus fruits – including Pixie Tangerines. Be sure to sample the fresh-squeezed juice! Friend’s Ranch Packing House at 15150 Maricopa Hwy is open to visitors on Tuesdays and Fridays only, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Check the website for seasonal ranch tours. You’ll also find them at the Sunday Farmers’ Market.
On the East end of the valley, seasonal produce is available at Boccali’s Pizza & Pasta. This popular local eatery grows its own tomatoes, basil, eggplant, peppers, onions, and garlic for restaurant use. On weekends during the summer they sell their excess bounty, plus seasonal citrus, at their own Farm Fresh Produce Stand, 3277 Ojai Avenue.
Organic And Natural Grocers
Rainbow Bridge Natural Foods Store and Westridge Market are two premium gourmet grocers that offer seven-day access to the best, fresh seasonal offerings – and their deli counters can’t be beat for picnic fare.
Vegetarians and natural food enthusiasts will want to stop at Rainbow Bridge for eclectic fresh salads and hot dishes from the deli counter. Located behind the Arcade at 211 East Matilija Street.
Local and organic produce is also available at Westridge Market and now at its second location, Westridge Midtown. Noted for their fresh produce, premium meats, cheeses and wine, the delis feature hearty gourmet fare. On summer weekends follow your nose to their barbecue located outside the market at 802 East Ojai Ave.
The Farmer and the Cook is a popular organic market and cafe which showcases produce from their 12-acre Ojai farm. During summer evenings, enjoy this local favorite spot with live music, wood-fired pizzas and house-made sangria outside. It’s a summer must-do!
