Ojai is passionate about art and its artists.
Many world-famous artists have made Ojai their home including Mad Magazine cartoonist Sergio Aragones, famed potter Otto Heino, beloved ceramicist Beatrice Woods, and inspired painter John Nava.
Dozens of galleries and private art studios are located throughout the Ojai Valley, each with its own niche and focus. The best place to start your art journey is right downtown, where a dozen or so galleries are clustered together within walking distance.
At
Human Arts Gallery, you’ll find an eclectic collection of hand-crafted furniture, ceramics, artisan apparel, folk art and jewelry representing more than 100 nationally known artisans.
Just a few doors down, the
Primavera Gallery houses a collection of colorful art glass, beautiful chandeliers, and fabulous paintings that will take your breath away.
For African art, browse at
Nomad, where paintings, masks, textiles and jewelry are colorfully displayed. On Montgomery Street,
Massarella’s Firehouse Pottery features ceramic art for the discerning collector as well as finely crafted functional art. Trowbridge Gallery offers a no-pressure atmosphere to shop for vibrant work from original artists, while Made In Ojai specializes in creations and products exclusively from Ojai-based artisans.
To immerse yourself in local art, plan your Ojai getaway to coincide with
Art in the Park on Memorial Day weekend or the
Ojai Artists Studio Tour in early October.
